Pınar Uyan Semerci

Prof. Dr. Pınar Uyan Semerci is a Professor of International Relations at Istanbul Bilgi University, where she currently serves as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science & International Relations from Boğaziçi University (2005), with a visiting graduate fellowship at the University of Chicago (2002–2003). Her academic career spans roles such as Director of the Centre for Migration Research, Head of the Department of International Relations, and Erasmus Coordinator.

Her educational background includes a BA, MA, and Ph.D. from Boğaziçi University, with a focus on political theory and international relations. She has also been a teaching assistant and instructor at Istanbul Bilgi University since 2000.

Uyan Semerci’s research interests center on universalism, justice, poverty, child well-being, migration, and polarization. She has authored or edited over a dozen books and numerous articles, focusing on issues like refugee integration, child rights, and nationalism. Her recent work explores the challenges faced by Syrian refugees in Turkey and the intersection of migration with child welfare.

Her projects include studies on seasonal labor migration, child labor prevention, and social infrastructure analysis. She has led initiatives funded by institutions like TÜBİTAK and UNICEF, emphasizing child well-being indicators and policy development.

Prof. Uyan Semerci’s academic contributions span political theory, social policy, and migration studies. She is affiliated with the Centre for Migration Research and has collaborated with organizations like the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and Heinrich Böll Stiftung. Her teaching includes courses on political theory, nationalism, and research methods.
