Prema Arasu

Prema Arasu (they/she) is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the School of Humanities and holds a postdoctoral position at the Minderoo-UWA Deep Sea Research Centre. They specialize in creative writing, environmental humanities, and interdisciplinary marine studies. Their work bridges speculative fiction with oceanic research, focusing on deep-sea ecosystems, queer theory, and posthumanism.

Education:

• PhD in Creative Writing (UWA, 2019-2022)
• MLitt in Modern Literature (University of St Andrews, 2018)
• BA(Hons) in English and Cultural Studies (UWA, 2017)

Research Interests: Prema explores the cultural construction of ocean depths through literature, film, and video games. Their work integrates experimental writing with scientific collaboration, addressing topics like sea monsters, gender in fantasy genres, and multispecies ethnography. Current projects include a deep-sea poetry collection and an edited anthology on marine folklore.
