Professor Preeti Patel is Professor of Global Health and Conflict at King's College London's Department of War Studies and Co-Director of the Centre for Conflict & Health Research. She holds a PhD in Political Science, MA in International Relations, and BSc in Economics, with affiliations spanning five KCL faculties through her multidisciplinary research initiative.
Her research focuses on health systems, gender leadership, and conflict-affected populations, notably managing a £4m NIHR Programme in Syria and a £7m GCRF/ESRC grant. Her work emphasizes qualitative methods to improve evidence-based policies for 500 million crisis-affected civilians globally.
Professor Patel's recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on health systems in fragile states, gender-inclusive governance, and innovative methodologies for conflict zone research. Her scholarship advances understanding of aid effectiveness, medical education in crises, and mental health-peacebuilding integration.
She received the Impact Prize at KCL for developing transferable health system strengthening models. Current projects include Women's Leadership at the health-conflict-peace nexus and cross-border healthcare governance.
Professor Patel actively mentors seven PhD students researching medical evacuations, health governance in Syria, and global health diplomacy. She convenes modules on Complex Political Emergencies and Conflict and Health, bridging War Studies and Global Health curricula.
