About
Prabodha Kumar Meher is a Researcher at the Department of Molecular Biosciences, The Wenner-Gren Institute at Stockholm University, Sweden, working with Prof. Andrzej Wojcik's group since May 2021.
His educational background includes:
- Doctoral degree from Nehru Gram Bharati deemed to be university Allahabad, India
- Master's degree in Biotechnology from VIT University, Vellore, India
- Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Berhampur University, Odisha, India
Dr. Meher's research focuses on radiation biology and cytogenetics, with specific expertise in DNA damage and repair mechanisms, chromatin structure, and effects of low-dose radiation exposure. His work investigates cellular and molecular responses to ionizing radiation with applications in cancer therapy and radiation protection.
Currently, he is engaged in two major European Commission-funded projects:
- The SINFONIA project (2021-2024) on "Radiation risk appraisal for detrimental effects from medical exposure during management of patients with lymphoma or brain tumor"
- The upcoming PIANOFORTE partnership project (2025 onwards) on "Mechanisms of the inversed relationship between menarche age and radiation-induced breast and endometrial cancer (MIRAMARE)"
Prior to his position at Stockholm University, Dr. Meher worked at the Institute of Medical Radiation Biology, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany (2018-2021), where he investigated DNA repair pathway selection following radiation-induced double-strand breaks, and served as Assistant Professor at MATS University, Raipur, India.
