Piotr Sula is a Professor at the University of Wrocław, where he serves as Deputy Director of the Institute of Political Science for Science and Development (until September 2024) and as Vice-Dean for International Cooperation at the Faculty of Political Science and Administration (WNS). He is affiliated with the Department of Political and Administrative Systems and has been actively contributing to the academic community through teaching, research, and administrative leadership.
His research focuses primarily on political systems and political parties, with particular emphasis on Central and Eastern European politics. He has supervised numerous doctoral students working on topics related to political parties, civil society, and political systems in various countries including Poland, Hungary, Turkey, Russia, and Azerbaijan. His work spans both theoretical and empirical analyses of political phenomena, with particular attention to the dynamics of party politics in post-communist contexts.
Professor Sula has published extensively on topics including small parties in European governments, political institutions, European elections, and political party systems in Central and Eastern Europe. His recent publications demonstrate continued scholarly productivity with multiple articles published in 2023-2025 covering electoral behavior, party politics, and security issues in the region.

Professor Sula has supervised multiple doctoral students to completion and currently oversees several PhD candidates working on diverse topics related to political parties, civil disobedience, and NGO participation in policy-making. He has secured numerous research grants from national and international funding bodies including the National Science Centre, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the International Visegrad Fund. His editorial roles include serving as Editor-in-Chief of the "Polish Political Science Review" and previously as Deputy Editor-in-Chief (2011-2021). He also coordinates the Summer School on Democracy and served as Head of the University of Wrocław Organizing Committee for the ECPR General Conference 2019.
