About
Ping Tian is an Honorary Associate in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on multimodality, discourse analysis, media semiotics, and cross-cultural communication. She holds a BA from China, an MLitt from the University of Sydney, and a PhD from the University of Sydney.
Research interests include semiotics in business communication, language and image use in media, and language and identity (especially cross-cultural dynamics). Her current project explores branding in Australian wine exports through social semiotic theory. She previously worked as a professional translator and interpreter in international trade fairs.

- Swiss National Science Foundation-funded Research Fellow (NFP 56 project, 2005-2007)
Teaching & Supervision: Interested in supervising postgraduate students analyzing mass media and business communication discourses using multimodal frameworks. Current project: Multilingualism and Multimodality in Australian Wine Labels.
