Pierre Mathieu

Pierre Mathieu is a Professor at Université Clermont Auvergne (UCA), where he serves as Director of the Institute of Letters, Languages, Human and Social Sciences and is a member of the UCA Executive Board. He is affiliated with the UFR Languages, Cultures and Communication and leads the Alter-Management, Human Potential and Innovation (AMPHI) axis. His research focuses on Human Resources Management, Strategy, Corporate Social Responsibility, Actor-Network Theory, Performance Management, Productivity, and Telework dynamics.

Professor Mathieu's research interests span several key areas in management and organizational behavior. He has made significant contributions to understanding telework dynamics, particularly how team maturity affects implementation effectiveness. His work explores the relationship between employee employability and organizational loyalty, the evolution of management information systems in response to social responsibility challenges, and innovation dynamics in industrial contexts. His methodological approach often combines grounded theory with participant observation in real organizational settings.

Analysis of Professor Mathieu's recent publications reveals a strong focus on telework as a central organizational strategy rather than a peripheral arrangement. His research demonstrates how telework implementation varies across teams based on maturity levels, with more mature teams adopting more collective behaviors. Professor Mathieu actively supervises doctoral students, including Patrice Bégie (thesis on management tools) and Stéphano Vacher (thesis on CSR orientation and technological innovation in manufacturing SMEs). His research has been supported through collaborations with industry partners, particularly Michelin, and he serves as Scientific Manager of the NSoW (New Situations of Work) platform of UCA.

He leads the AMPHI research axis and participates in broader initiatives, including serving on the Scientific Committee for the preparation of the 2023 DARES Working Conditions - Psychosocial Risks survey. His work with the NSoW platform focuses on investigating new work situations through the lens of situation and inquiry theory, developing frameworks for understanding contemporary workplace transformations.
