Mathieu GOMES

Mathieu GOMES is an HDR Lecturer at IAE Clermont Auvergne – School of Management, Université Clermont Auvergne (UCA), France. He directs the FIRE (Finance, Information and Corporate Responsibility) research axis and the “Value & CSR” research chair, and serves on the Scientific Council of CleRMa (Clermont Recherche Management).

Research Interests

His research spans market finance, mergers & acquisitions, commodity markets, energy economics, and corporate social responsibility (CSR). A particular focus is placed on greenwashing, the impact of CSR on M&A outcomes, and the financial implications of environmental and social disclosures.

Recent Publication Trends

Between 2019 and 2025, his work has concentrated on five inter-related themes: (1) the influence of CSR on M&A target selection, premiums, and uncertainty; (2) greenwashing behaviour under competitive and religious pressures; (3) the role of commodities—including gold and agricultural products—as safe-haven or hedging assets; (4) the intersection of climate change, carbon pricing, and financial markets; and (5) energy–growth linkages as synthesised in the 2024 Handbook on Energy and Economic Growth. These studies appear in leading journals such as Journal of Corporate Finance, Finance Research Letters, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Energy Journal.
