Pia L. Bertucci serves as Senior Instructor (equivalent to Senior Lecturer) and Italian Program Director in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of South Carolina's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Romance Languages from UNC Chapel Hill with dissertation research on female relationships in Matilde Serao's narratives.
Her research examines Italian cultural transmission through food, literature, and cinema. Current book projects include 'The Urban Peasant: Communicating Italian Language and Culture through Food' analyzing culinary pedagogy, and 'Chora, Chorus, Coro' exploring spatial dynamics in Italian women writers' works across historical periods.
Teaching encompasses Italian language instruction, Dante studies, business Italian, and specialized courses on Italian cinema and food culture. She integrates philological analysis with contemporary cultural studies approaches across undergraduate and graduate curricula.
