Phyllis Boumans is a Lecturer at the Department of English at Stockholm University. She holds a PhD in Irish Literature from the University of Leuven and a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) from Utrecht University, specializing in bilingual and international teaching at secondary and upper-secondary levels. Prior to joining Stockholm University, she worked at Uppsala University and Mid-Sweden University.
Her research explores the interplay between mid-twentieth-century Irish literature, periodical culture, short fiction studies, modernism, gender studies, postcolonial theory, and radio literature. She is actively involved in editorial work, co-editing the short story anthology The Writer’s Torch: Reading Stories from The Bell (Stinging Fly Press, 2023) and currently editing The Edinburgh Companion of Irish Literature and Periodical Culture (EUP, 2025) with Elke D’hoker. Her teaching spans literary analysis, Anglophone literature, critical theory, composition, and proficiency courses.
