Philip Thompson is Professor of Acting and Associate Chair at University of California, Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts. An alumnus of UCI's MFA Acting program, he previously headed Ohio State University's MFA Acting program. He co-founded Knight-Thompson Speechwork® and serves as a resident voice/text coach for Utah Shakespeare Festival.
Research focuses on voice, speech, and dialect coaching methodologies. Professional coaching credits include South Coast Repertory, Pasadena Playhouse, OperaPacific, and Cincinnati Playhouse. Authored 'Experiencing Accents: A Knight-Thompson Speechwork® Guide for Acting in Accent' and other publications bridging theatre practice and pedagogy.
Leadership includes past presidency of VASTA (Voice and Speech Trainers Association) and board membership of U/RTA (University Resident Theatre Association).
