Philip Garratt is a Lecturer, Senior Technician, and Assistant Curator at the School of Art, Aberystwyth University. He has worked full-time there since 2000, coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate exhibitions, managing museum collections, and overseeing technical and administrative support. He holds a BA in Fine Art and an MPhil in Art History from Wolverhampton University and the University of Wales, respectively.
His research focuses on the History of Printmaking and Welsh Art, including his thesis on the 'Welsh Primitive' artist. He teaches art history modules such as 'History of Printmaking' and 'Looking at Art' for the School of Education and Lifelong Learning. Notable projects include a 2013 collaborative print exhibition and a 2019 ArtUK-funded project on the sculpture collection of George Powell of Nanteos Mansion.
Garratt manages facilities like lithography presses, photography labs, and the School's art collection. He also serves as Disability Coordinator, Equality Champion, and Health and Safety Representative.
