Philip C. McCarty is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Department of Global and International Studies at the University of California, Irvine. He holds a PhD in Sociology (2007) and dual Master’s degrees in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research focuses on global media, global inequalities, and challenges to democratic systems. He has authored/co-authored influential works like The Global Turn (2017) and edited volumes such as Integrated Perspectives in Global Studies (2012/2014). McCarty has held leadership roles including Director of the PhD Emphasis in Global Studies (2019–present) and Director of Graduate/Undergraduate Programs in Global Studies (2018–present). His scholarly contributions emphasize transdisciplinary frameworks and global governance analysis.
