Peter Woodward

Peter Woodward is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for Learning Disabilities at the University of Greenwich's School of Health Sciences. He joined the university in 2006, teaching pre-registration BSc Hons Learning Disability Nursing and BSc Intellectual Disabilities programmes. As a certified Moving and Handling and Breakaway Skills instructor, his work integrates clinical expertise with academic rigor.

His research focuses on mental health promotion for people with learning disabilities and de-escalation strategies for violence and aggression in healthcare. With over thirty publications, including guidance for the Royal College of Nursing, he bridges practice and policy.

Prior academic roles include Training Officer at the Estia Centre (Institute of Psychiatry) and nursing positions at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, specializing in forensic and challenging behavior services. His career began in engineering before transitioning to healthcare.
