Dr. Peter Wood is a Professor of Music at the University of South Alabama, specializing in applied trumpet instruction, brass ensemble coaching, and brass literature. He has received national recognition for his teaching, including the 2011 Andy and Carol Denny National Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2007 College of Arts and Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dr. Wood has performed on four continents, with notable engagements including artist-in-residence at the Trento Conservatory in Italy and performances at the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) conferences in Sydney, Australia, and Seoul, South Korea. He founded the USA Brass Chamber Music Program and the South Alabama Brass Chamber Music Honors Festival, expanding opportunities for chamber music ensembles. His students have achieved national and international honors, with many pursuing successful careers in performance and education.
He has served on the ITG Board of Directors and as ITG Publications Editor, overseeing the ITG Journal and other publications. Dr. Wood has also written grants to bring renowned artists like the St. Louis Brass Quintet and American Brass Quintet to campus.

As a performer, Dr. Wood plays Bach Artisan Bb and C trumpets and a Conn Vintage One flugelhorn. He is a Conn-Selmer endorsing artist and performs with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, releasing two solo CDs on the MSR Classics and Beauport Classical labels.
