Brad Ulrich

Brad Ulrich is a Professor of Music at Western Carolina University, affiliated with the School of Music within the David Orr Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts. He has been teaching trumpet performance since 1989. His roles include faculty member, performer, and artistic director of multiple brass ensembles.

Research & Performance: Ulrich specializes in trumpet performance and education, with active roles in orchestras and brass quintets. He has performed globally and led the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet for 30 years. His research interests include trumpet pedagogy and performance practices.

Awards: Recipient of the James Dooley Award for Teaching Excellence (2002, 2008, 2015) and the University Scholar Award (2013).

Professional Activities: Executive Director of the Trumpet Festival of the Southeast, contributor to the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), and artist/clinician for XO Professional Trumpets.
