Peter Hewitt

Peter Hewitt is a Jerrinja/Yuin man and Senior Lecturer in Aboriginal Education at the University of Wollongong (UOW). He combines 20 years of teaching experience with expertise in creative arts, educational leadership, and Aboriginal cultural advocacy. His current roles include co-leading the 'Country, Contexts, and Cultures' focus area at the Early Start Institute and serving as Chief Investigator (CI) on UOW Global Challenges Grants: 'Whale Songlines' and 'Integrating Country, Indigenous Consultation and Engagement in UOW Research Programs'.

Research emphasizes respectful engagement with Country as a teacher and knowledge holder. His creative work includes solo exhibitions and public collections at Wollongong City Gallery, Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, and NSW Parliament House. Volunteer efforts with Back to Country and the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) reflect his commitment to cultural preservation and education advocacy.

Teaching roles span school leadership (Figtree High School, Deputy Principal Instructional Leader) to state-level roles in the Department of Education, including Aboriginal Education and Wellbeing Advisor.
