Guy Freer

Guy Freer is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts, English and Media at the University of Wollongong, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. Previously, he served as Deputy Head of School (2021-2022) and Discipline Leader for Contemporary Arts (2019-2021).

Dr. Freer's research interests include:

• Virtual and mixed reality applications
• Cultural and creative industries
• Digital heritage preservation
• Sound and music computing

His recent creative works demonstrate a strong focus on immersive technologies and storytelling, with projects like 'Gentle 360' (2024) and 'Whale Cave VR' (2022) showcasing his expertise in virtual environments and digital storytelling. His research output spans creative works, books, and chapters that bridge artistic practice with technological innovation.

Dr. Freer has received recognition through nominations for the Helpmann Award and the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning (OCTAL). He has secured significant funding for projects including XRNet and Whale Songlines.

In teaching, Dr. Freer has developed numerous courses in audio production, music production, sound design, and critical studies in music, demonstrating his commitment to both technical skills development and theoretical understanding in creative arts education.
