Peter Collyer

Dr. Peter Collyer is a Professor of Historical Performance at the Guildhall School, specializing in baroque and classical viola. He holds a MMus (awarded 2008) and PhD in musicology from the University of Leeds (2012). His work bridges performance and academia, emphasizing historical performance practice's relevance to modern musicianship.

He has held leadership roles including Head of Early Music Studies and Head of Performance at the University of Southampton (1995–2007). Current roles include External Examiner for Undergraduate Performance at the University of Bristol and lecturer at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and Royal Academy of Music.

Research focuses on string instrument pedagogy and historical editions, with presentations at Leeds, Cardiff, and Royal Northern College of Music. Awarded a Senior Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy (2013).
