Peter Clayton is a part-time Senior Lecturer at Leeds Law School, University of Leeds Beckett. He joined in 2021 after a 26-year career with international law firm Pinsent Masons, serving as a partner (2005–2021) across the UK and Hong Kong. He qualified as a Hong Kong solicitor in 2012. Peter holds an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration from Leeds Beckett University (1998) and is currently pursuing a PhD at Strathclyde University while maintaining FHEA status.
His teaching focuses on Contract Law, Company Law, Construction Law, Civil Litigation, and Corporate Secretarial Practice. He has developed an undergraduate Construction Law Module and serves as an external examiner at Northumbria Law School.
Research interests center on international security of payment legislation in construction, informed by his extensive practice in dispute resolution and transactional matters for infrastructure clients globally. His recent publications explore architects’ legal duties and cross-border payment frameworks in construction projects.
