Pawas Bisht

Dr. Pawas Bisht is a Senior Lecturer in Media, Communications and Culture at Keele University, serving as Deputy Director of the Keele Institute for Sustainable Futures and Programme Director for the MA Global Media Programmes. He holds roles in academic leadership, documentary filmmaking, and environmental research. His work focuses on media and cultural politics intersecting with environmental activism, cultural memory, and documentary storytelling. He leads the British Academy-funded 'Storytelling for Environmental Change' project addressing air pollution in India (2021–2023).

Education & Professional Background: Previously affiliated with Loughborough University, Leicester University, and AJK Mass Communication Research Centre in India. Films screened on Channel 4, CNBC, Doordarshan, and global art venues. Member of AHRC Peer Review College and external examiner at Coventry University.

Research Interests: Explores environmental storytelling, memory-work in social movements, and transnational media practices. Key projects include studies on the Bhopal Gas Disaster and the Solovetsky Islands’ Gulag memory. Current focus on climate action narratives and green nationalism in media.

Teaching & Supervision: Convenes modules on Documentary Theory & Practice, Mediated Communications, and Globalisation. Supervises PhD projects on cultural memory, Algerian cinema, Indonesian Instagram influencers, and plastic waste art practices.

Grants & Projects: Leads British Academy-funded environmental storytelling initiative. Previous research includes ethnographic studies on memory and justice in Bhopal. Films include 'Memory Archipelago' (2018), 'Back to the Drawing Board' (2017), and '(Not) Acting Our Age' (2019).
