Paul Tofari

Dr. Paul Tofari is a Lecturer at the Sports Performance, Recovery, Injury and New Technologies (SPRINT) Research Centre, Australian Catholic University (ACU). He holds a PhD from ACU (2018) and a Bachelor’s honours degree from collaboration with the Victorian Institute of Sport. His research focuses on fatigue, strength profiling, and exercise science applications in sports and occupational settings. He is a certified Level 2 Australian Strength and Conditioning Association coach and Level 1 Weightlifting coach.

Key areas of expertise include team-sport match simulations, GPS technology in athlete performance tracking, neural function assessment of muscles, and military/occupational physical standards. He has consulted for organizations like Tennis Australia, AirServices Australia, and the Malaysian Track Cycling Team. His work bridges laboratory research with real-world applications in sports and defense sectors.

Dr. Tofari has received awards including the DSTO Divisional Award (2013) and ACU Post-Graduate Award (2013-2015). His research projects explore neural consequences of hamstring injuries, validity of wearable technologies, and physical demands of aviation firefighters. He supervises HDR students in provisional capacity and advises on training programs for elite athletes and emergency responders.

Current roles include Human Performance Scientist (Defence Science Group, 2009–2013) and consultancy for Victoria Police’s Special Operations Group. He leads studies on fatigue management, injury prevention, and optimizing occupational performance across diverse industries.
