Dr. Paul R. Katz is a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. He holds a BA from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Princeton University. His research focuses on modern Chinese religious life, particularly the interaction between Han and non-Han religious traditions in Southwest China. He previously taught at universities in Taiwan from 1991 to 2002 and served as Program Director of the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange from 2005.
