About
Dr. Paul Everest is an Affiliate Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at the University of Glasgow's School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine. His research program focuses on infectious disease mechanisms, particularly host-pathogen interactions involving Campylobacter jejuni and other significant pathogens. He develops innovative diagnostic approaches including the MultiSeq-AMR workflow for rapid bloodstream infection detection and antimicrobial resistance profiling.
Dr. Everest employs diverse models from gnotobiotic piglets to in vitro systems to investigate bacterial pathogenesis. His work has identified critical virulence factors in Campylobacter infection and characterized the role of glycosylation systems in host colonization. Recent research advances molecular diagnostics through host depletion techniques that enhance pathogen detection in clinical samples.
He contributes to teaching microbiology and maintains collaborations across veterinary and medical science disciplines. Dr. Everest serves on editorial boards including the Society for General Microbiology Journal and participates in grant advisory panels for scientific funding bodies.
