About
Dr. Alain Stintzi is a Professor at the University of Ottawa, affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology within the Faculty of Medicine. He also serves as the Director of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research focuses on host-pathogen interactions, particularly with Campylobacter jejuni, a major cause of gastroenteritis and Guillain-Barré syndrome.
- MSc, Université Louis-Pasteur (1992)
- PhD, Université Louis-Pasteur (1997)
Stintzi’s work combines functional genomics, transcriptomics, and animal models to study microbial gene expression during host colonization. His research explores how pathogens adapt to host environments, focusing on iron metabolism, oxidative stress responses, and nutrient acquisition in Campylobacter jejuni. He investigates the interplay between pathogens, gut microbiota, and host physiology to develop diagnostic and preventive strategies for infections.
The selected publications highlight Stintzi’s contributions to understanding gene regulation, virulence determinants, and environmental stress responses in Campylobacter jejuni and other microbes. His work spans transcriptional profiling, proteomic analyses, and iron transport mechanisms, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches integrating microbiology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics.
Stintzi’s laboratory operates in Roger Guindon Hall, Room 4135, where his team employs techniques such as microarray analysis, genetic mutagenesis, and in vivo models to study pathogen dynamics in the gastrointestinal tract.
