Paul Begin

Paul Begin is a Professor of Hispanic Studies and Associate Dean of Curriculum and General Education at Seaver College, Pepperdine University. He holds a PhD and MA in Spanish from the University of Virginia (2006 and 2002) and a BA in Spanish from Pepperdine University (1999). His academic work bridges Hispanic literature, cinema, and cultural studies.

Research Interests: Begin specializes in Spanish cinema, particularly the works of Luis Buñuel, and explores themes of surrealism, social issues, and ethical representation in film. His research intersects with gender studies, political critique, and transnational narratives, focusing on how cinema addresses violence, domestic abuse, and human rights.

Publications: Begin's scholarship analyzes Spanish and transnational films through surrealist techniques, socio-political contexts, and cross-cultural dynamics. His articles examine topics like domestic violence representation, surrealist montage, and the intersection of entomology and anthropology in Buñuel's films.
