Patxi Zabalo

Patxi Zabalo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where he has taught International Economics and Development Studies since 1983. He has been affiliated with the Hegoa Institute since its creation, contributing to research on Human Security, Local Human Development, and International Cooperation. His work focuses on neoliberal globalization, WTO dynamics, and Latin American development since 2010.

• Research Interests: International trade agreements, investment policies, human development, neoliberalism, food security, and their impacts on Latin America.
• Publications: Over 36 solo works and 18 collaborations, spanning 50 years of Bretton Woods analysis to contemporary WTO critiques.
• Methodology: Combines inclusive economic frameworks with critical global governance analysis.

Labs & Teams: Active member of the Hegoa Institute's research group since 2010, focusing on human development and North-South relations. Collaborates with institutions across Spain, Canada, and Latin America.
