Patrick Hayden-Roy is a Professor of History and Associate Provost at Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he has served on the faculty since 1989. He plays a key leadership role in advancing the Archway Curriculum, promoting high-impact educational practices such as internships, collaborative research, study away, and e-portfolios to deepen student learning and self-reflection.
His educational background includes a B.A. from the University of Southern California (1981) and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University (1988). He is dedicated to fostering integrative and applied learning experiences for students.
Dr. Hayden-Roy's research focuses on Reformation-era Germany, with a particular interest in the appropriation of Martin Luther's image during the Nazi period. His academic interests also extend to the intersections of science and religion, conceptions of self in Western thought, and the history of disease. He is actively engaged in developing innovative pedagogical approaches, especially project-based learning and e-portfolio practices that help students synthesize and demonstrate their learning across disciplines.
His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Disease in History, Science and Religion in the Western Tradition, The Ancient World, The Middle Ages, Heresy, Conflict and Violence, and Nazi Germany. He also teaches interdisciplinary seminars, including Self and Society in the Life of Bob Dylan and Identity: An Introductory Exploration.

In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Hayden-Roy is involved in adult education and social ministry through his church. As Associate Provost, he leads curricular innovation efforts that support faculty development and student success. He maintains an open-door policy with office hours Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM and by appointment, reflecting his commitment to student engagement.
