Dr. Patrick Hartley is the Leader of CSIRO’s Hydrogen Industry Mission, driving strategic research and development for Australia’s hydrogen industry scale-up since May 2021. He also holds an Adjunct Professorship at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

Research Interests focus on hydrogen energy systems, sustainable petroleum development, carbon dioxide storage, and cross-industry technology innovation in drug delivery, energy storage, and water treatment.
Awards include the CSIRO Medal for Business Excellence (2009), the One CSIRO Award (2006), and the Grimwade Prize in Industrial Chemistry (2004).
With over 90 peer-reviewed publications and leadership roles since 2006, he collaborates globally with corporations and SMEs. He co-led CSIRO’s National Hydrogen Roadmap and the 2018 ‘Hydrogen for Australia’s Future’ briefing paper.
