Patrick Deane is the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University since July 2019. Previously, he served as President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University (9 years) and held academic leadership roles at Queen's University, Western University, and the University of Winnipeg. He is a Professor of English Literature with expertise in cultural production and British politics in the early 20th century.
Education: BAH (English) from the University of the Witwatersrand (1978), MA (English) from Western University (1979), and PhD (English) from Western University (1986). He was the first recipient of the John Charles Polanyi Prize for Literature (1988).
Research focuses on British literatures, postcolonial studies, and higher education systems. His administrative leadership spans multiple institutions, emphasizing academic governance and institutional strategy.
