Patrick Belanger

Patrick Belanger is a Professor of Communication Studies at California State University Monterey Bay. His research focuses on media ethics, rhetoric, and cultural studies with a particular emphasis on Canadian-US comparative perspectives. He holds a PhD from the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism at the University of Southern California and is a Fulbright Canada alum.

Belanger's academic background includes two major awards: the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Award (2010–2011) and the Fulbright Canada Traditional Canada–US Award (2007–2008). His research outputs include 13 peer-reviewed articles, books, and chapters addressing topics like wildlife conservation messaging, rhetoric of freedom in border regions, and counter-terrorism communication strategies.

His work bridges critical media analysis with practical applications in conservation advocacy and security studies. Recent publications highlight intersections between environmental communication and ethical messaging frameworks.
