Paschal Msomi is a Researcher in the Department of History at the European University Institute (EUI). His research focuses on environmental governance and the intersection of state intervention with local communities, particularly in the context of Tanzania. He is part of the 2023 cohort and specializes in examining historical dynamics of forest conservation and resource management.
Msomi's thesis, titled *State intervention and local community’s response to Coastal Forests Reserves in Tanzania: A Case of Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserve from the 1950s to 2010s*, is supervised by Prof. Corinna Unger and second-read by Dr. Emmanuel Mourlon-Druol. His work explores the tensions between state policies and community practices in environmental conservation.
