Papiya Mazumdar

Papiya Mazumdar is a Lecturer in Global Health at the University of Leeds, part of the School of Politics and International Studies within the Faculty of Social Sciences. She joined the university in February 2022. Her academic background includes a PhD in Population Studies from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), India, alongside degrees in Geography (BA and MA) and a Master of Population Studies (MPS).

Her research focuses on the intersection of climate change, environmental factors, and population health, particularly in South Asia. Key interests include assessing climate change impacts on health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), addressing vulnerabilities in coastal regions, and analyzing physical-mental comorbidities. She has collaborated with policymakers to develop state-level climate adaptation plans aligned with UNFCCC frameworks and municipal health strategies for climatic risk mitigation in urban areas.

Papiya has supervised students across interdisciplinary programs such as the Master of Public Health, Master of Sustainable Development Practice, and Master of Population Studies (Distance Learning). She is affiliated with professional networks like the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) and the Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP).
