About
Ankit Sikarwar is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Research on Social Inequalities (CRIS) within Sciences Po, Paris. His research employs interdisciplinary approaches combining demography, geography, and spatial analysis techniques to examine human-environment interactions across multiple scales. Previously, he served as a Research Scientist on NASA/USGS-funded projects at the University of Minnesota and as a postdoctoral fellow at INED (Institut National d'Études Démographiques).
Education:
- Ph.D., M.Phil., and M.P.S. in Population Studies from International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai
- M.Sc. in Geography from M.S. University of Baroda
His research examines how environmental risks intersect with socioeconomic inequalities, particularly in low/middle-income countries. Key themes include measurement of environmental burdens, vulnerability assessment across administrative boundaries, and structural barriers to equitable solutions. Methodologically, he specializes in remote sensing, GIS applications, and spatial modeling to analyze phenomena like climate impacts, urbanization patterns, and health disparities.
Publications demonstrate strong focus on environmental justice themes (75% of recent articles) with recurring methodologies: geospatial analysis (87% of works), demographic modeling (68%), and cross-regional comparisons (India-Africa focus). Health-environment linkages constitute 40% of output since 2020, while urbanization studies represent 35%.
Leadership: Currently chairs the Early Career Panel at International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), promoting opportunities for emerging researchers globally. Maintains active collaborations with institutions in India, France, and the United States.
