Panayiotis Hadjicostas is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Nicosia Medical School and a Consultant in General Surgery and Surgical Oncology at the Nicosia Polyclinic Private Hospital in Cyprus. He holds an MD from the University of Patras and a PhD from the University of Athens, with higher specialty training at Hippocrateon University Hospital, Athens. His clinical expertise includes Surgical Oncology, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and Transplant Surgery.
Dr. Hadjicostas pioneered Liver and Pancreas Surgery in Cyprus, including the first Pancreatic Resection (Whipple’s procedure) in 1992. He developed the national Liver Tumour Destruction (RFA) program and introduced innovative surgical techniques. He served as Director/Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Nicosia General Hospital, overseeing 23 years of service in the Cyprus Ministry of Health.
His research focuses on complex surgical oncology (hepatobiliary, pancreatic, gastrointestinal cancers), transplantation, trauma surgery, and minimally invasive techniques. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology, and a member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Hadjicostas is dedicated to surgical education, training residents, junior doctors, and medical students. He has trained at King’s College Hospital (London) and institutions in the US/UK, emphasizing continuous professional development.
