Onur Mengi

Dr. Onur Mengi serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Design at Izmir University of Economics' Faculty of Fine Arts and Design. His academic career spans industrial design, design management, and interdisciplinary research since 2010, with additional international research experience at Amsterdam Metropolitan Studies (2008) and QUT Design Lab (2018).

His research focuses on creative industries ecosystems, innovation frameworks, and creative space development. Mengi employs evidence-based, end-user-driven methodologies to generate design strategies that drive social change through multi-level systems thinking. His work bridges product design to urban-scale interventions, emphasizing community engagement and sustainable development.

Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on creative urban ecosystems (2017-2024), with increasing emphasis on participatory design (2023-2024) and knowledge management in maker spaces. His research shows strong geographical anchoring in Izmir while expanding to international contexts like Brisbane.

Administratively, Mengi has served as Head of the Design Management Program at the Social Sciences Institute and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design. He has led industry-university collaborations with major corporations including IKEA, VESTEL, SIMECO, and TEKA through EKOTAM Research Center.
