Yu Kao

Dr Yu Kao is an Associate Lecturer (TIEA) in the School of Design at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice. His research focuses on digital design, privacy in technology, and placemaking, with a particular emphasis on geoprivacy and ethical design. Kao holds a PhD from QUT and has contributed to projects such as the Brisbane Digital Urban Experiences Horizon Scan Report and studies on cultural probes for privacy reflection.

His work bridges digital technology and urban spaces, exploring how interactive installations and place-oriented frameworks can enhance public engagement and trust. Recent publications address geoprivacy challenges, urban digital infrastructure, and frameworks for placemaking in public spaces. Kao collaborates with the QUT Design Lab and engages in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of technology, ethics, and urban design.
