Olga Romero Mestas is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at Florida State University, within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from Florida State University, an M.A. in Latin-American Studies from Universidad de Camaguey, and a B.A. in Journalism from Universidad de La Habana. Her research focuses on colonial studies, Hispanic literature, and resistance theory, with special attention to fraternal societies and postcolonial spaces. She is also an accomplished fiction writer.
Her recent publications include Antihéroe (2023) and Pajaritos, Escabeche (2019). Her work Ana en sombras (2011) earned the National Literary Award Puerta de Papel. Her scholarship explores themes such as diaspora, exile, and resistance in literary works, with notable contributions to Cuban and Cuban-American literature analysis.
She teaches courses in Spanish language instruction and Hispanic literature, including Elementary Spanish, Intermediate Spanish, and Approaching Hispanic Literature.
