Ola Harrysson

Ola Harrysson is the Edward P. Fitts Distinguished Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University (NC State), affiliated with the College of Engineering. He joined the ISE department in 2002 and leads the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL), which pioneers advanced manufacturing technologies like Electron Beam Melting (EBM). His research focuses on additive manufacturing applications in aerospace, medical devices, and regenerative medicine, with notable work on custom implants and veterinary prosthetics.

Education: PhD in Industrial Engineering (University of Central Florida, 2001), MS in Industrial Engineering (UCF, 1997), BS in Mechanical Engineering (Dala University, Sweden, 1995).

Research Interests: Medical and aerospace applications of additive manufacturing, custom biomedical implants, rehabilitation engineering, and osseointegration. He collaborates with the College of Veterinary Medicine on prosthetics for animals, such as transdermal osseointegrated limbs for dogs.

Publications reflect his expertise in additive manufacturing processes, materials optimization, and biomedical applications, with recent work on graphene-reinforced composites and defect prediction algorithms.

Labs/Teams: Directs CAMAL, a multidisciplinary hub collaborating with industries and national labs (e.g., Oak Ridge, Sandia). CAMAL hosts the first EBM machine in the U.S. and develops novel materials like metallic-glass alloys via additive processes.
