About
Nural Akchurin is Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas Tech University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1990 and A.B. from Vassar College in 1982. His research focuses on experimental particle physics and detector development, with significant contributions to the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment at CERN.
Research explores dark matter detection, calorimeter design improvements, and advanced particle detection techniques. Current projects include dual-readout calorimeters and high-granularity silicon detectors for the Large Hadron Collider.
He mentors undergraduate research in muon tomography and radiation-hardened materials. Recent publications demonstrate innovations in neural network applications for calorimetry and detector quality control.
