Dr Nuno Tavares is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth’s School of Dental, Health and Care Professions, within the Faculty of Science & Health. He holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Southampton and has over 10 years of experience in nursing and academia. His primary roles include teaching, supervising students, and advancing research in health sciences.
Education: PhD in Health Sciences (University of Southampton), Registered Nurse (Adult).
Research Interests: Focused on dementia care, multimorbidity, COPD, palliative care, and patient perspectives on healthcare technologies. He leads projects such as AIMed (optimizing dementia treatment regimens) and co-designing patient pathways for mental health and dementia support in Portsmouth.
Awards: NIHR ARC Wessex and Alzheimer’s Society Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. His work explores improving care standards for individuals with long-term conditions, particularly in community settings.
Teaching and Supervision: Leads modules on evidence-based practice, long-term conditions, and palliative care. Supervises PhD students in health sciences.
