Norbert Abels

Prof. Dr. Norbert Abels is a Professor at the Folkwang University of the Arts, specializing in Opera Dramaturgy and Music Theatre. He served as Head Dramaturg of the Frankfurt Opera (1997–2020) and holds additional academic roles at Mediacampus Frankfurt, the Frankfurt Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. His expertise spans literary studies, musicology, and German-Jewish poetry.

Research interests include opera dramaturgy, theatre history, and interdisciplinary cultural studies.
