Nora Alter

Nora Alter is a Professor in Film and Media Arts at Temple University. Her research critically examines the relationship between sound and visual elements in audiovisual media, challenging dominant methodologies that prioritize the visual over the acoustic. She explores how sound, music, and noise function as central structuring forces in experimental film and video, expanding reception beyond visual centrality.
