Noam Maitless

Noam Maitless is an Associate Professor in the Practice of Urban Systems at the School of Engineering, Australian National University (ANU). He is also Design Director for Architecture and Urban Design at GHDWoodhead. His work bridges visionary urban design with environmental resilience and economic strategy, focusing on mixed-use precincts, aerotropolis master planning, and sustainable cities.

Research Interests: Noam’s research emphasizes integrating cultural significance with functional urban systems. Notable projects include the redevelopment of downtown Las Vegas, the Ekurhuleni aerotropolis plan, and a 50-year master plan for the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. He advocates for place-making strategies that balance ecological sustainability and economic viability.

Professional Activities: He is a Registered Architect in California and the ACT, with certifications including NCARB and LEED BD+C. He serves on advisory bodies like the Property Council of Australia’s Sustainable Development Committee and ACT Government’s National Capital Design Review Panel.

Design Leadership: As an experienced design leader, he has directed international teams delivering projects valued in billions of dollars, emphasizing collaboration between public and private sectors.
