Dr. Ning Lin serves as Program Manager and Chief Economist at the Center for Energy Economics within the Bureau of Economic Geology at The University of Texas at Austin, where she joined in 2019. She leverages economics to address energy and environmental research challenges across the institution.
Her research focuses on upstream oil and gas resources and economic evaluation for development, oil and gas market analysis with infrastructure planning across value chains, renewables sector assessment, environmental resource management (particularly flaring, water and land issues), and system modeling for sustainable energy transition that addresses policy and technology choices. Her work integrates geoscience expertise with economic analysis to solve complex energy challenges.
With extensive industry experience, Dr. Lin previously managed global market analysis capabilities for Shell Trading, Koch Industries, and Tenaska. Her background spans natural gas and power markets, petrochemical derivatives, intermediate chemicals, and polymer/fiber engineering plastics. She has executed commercial development projects, established international partnerships, and managed capital investments, technology licensing, and product innovation initiatives.
