Nikolay Mintchev

Dr Nikolay Mintchev is a Principal Research Fellow at the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity (University College London), where he also serves as Departmental Graduate Tutor for PhD students. He maintains additional affiliation as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Essex. His work primarily focuses on Lebanon and the UK, with particular emphasis on PROCOL Lebanon research initiatives addressing prosperity through participatory methodologies.

Research Interests:
Dr Mintchev's scholarship explores four interconnected themes:

• The relationship between diversity and prosperity in contemporary societies
• Social theories of prosperity incorporating subjectivity, lived experience, and social change frameworks
• Contextual understanding and measurement of prosperity metrics
• Innovative participatory research methodologies and impact pathways

His work spans multiple disciplines including social theory, psychoanalytic philosophy, cultural studies, and sociological methodology.

Publication Analysis:
Dr Mintchev's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on redefining prosperity frameworks through citizen science approaches, particularly in Lebanese urban contexts. His scholarship combines theoretical innovation in social epistemology with applied community-based research, examining livelihood strategies during economic crises, walkability infrastructure, and displacement contexts. Methodologically, he emphasizes participatory action research and ethnographic engagement with vulnerable communities.

Teaching & Supervision:
At UCL, Dr Mintchev convenes and teaches two MSc modules:

• Pathways to Prosperity 1: Global Legacies
• Social Theories of Prosperity

He currently serves as graduate tutor for PhD students at the Institute for Global Prosperity.

Research Leadership:
As core team member of PROCOL Lebanon, Dr Mintchev contributes to collaborative research co-designing solutions in Lebanon's spaces of displacement. His work engages multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals including Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Sustainable Cities (SDG 11), Peace and Justice (SDG 16), and Climate Action (SDG 13).
