Niki von Lockette is an Associate Professor of Public Policy and African American Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on racial and ethnic disparities in employment, wage gaps, segregation, and discrimination. She has been affiliated with the School of Public Policy and the Department of African American Studies, with offices in the Welch Building.
Her work includes studies on residential segregation's impact on unemployment and wages for Black and Latino populations, as well as occupational segregation's effects on worker attitudes. She has consulted for the U.S. Departments of Labor and Commerce and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
Dr. von Lockette received a HUD Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the National Academy of Science to study racial disparities in unemployment linked to residential segregation. Her research is published in journals like Economic Geography and City and Community.
