Niki Cheong is a Lecturer in Digital Culture and Society at King's College London, serving as Programme Lead for the BA Digital Media and Culture. He holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham (2020) and an MA from King's College London, alongside a BA in Internet Studies from Curtin University. His research bridges media, politics, and digital culture, with a focus on Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific. He investigates disinformation, digital citizenship, and LGBTQIA+ youth practices, supported by grants from UNESCO/UNDP and King's College London. His work includes award-winning journalism and the book Growing Up In KL: 10 Years of The Bangsar Boy.
Research interests include cybertrooping, WhatsApp's affective dynamics, and marginalized youth's digital resilience. He teaches modules like Digital Politics and Social Media, and supervises PhD students in political communication and disinformation studies. Awards include the 2021 Best Dissertation Award from the Association of Internet Researchers.
