Dr. Nik Georgopoulos is an Associate Professor in Cell Biology and Transforming Lives Fellow at the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre, part of the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University. He holds dual affiliations with the Industry and Innovation Research Institute and Health Research Institute. His research focuses on epithelial cell biology, cancer mechanisms, and therapeutic interventions, with notable work on chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) and peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). He is the Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder of VeritaCell (skin regeneration) and collaborates with Paxman Ltd on CIA research.
Education: BSc (Biochemistry & Genetics) and PhD from the University of Leeds, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at Cancer Research UK (Leeds) and the University of York. Academic roles include Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Reader at previous institutions.
Research Interests: Cell signaling in cancer apoptosis, CD40-mediated therapeutic strategies, chemotherapy-induced side effects, and medical device innovation. Key projects include the ThanatoCure® therapeutic platform and scalp cooling technologies.
