Nicole Calian is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Comparative History of Ideas at the University of Washington, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. She earned her PhD from the Department of Germanics at UW in 2008 and has been teaching there since 2009. Her research focuses on German Intellectual History, Jewish Studies, Literary Criticism, and Religion, with particular emphasis on figures like Kant, Heinrich Heine, Lessing, and ETA Hoffmann. She organized the 2012 conference 'Women in the Professions' at UW Bothell and led a 2014 study abroad program in Berlin titled 'Berlin Beyond the Wall.' She is currently preparing a book manuscript, The Human Being at Play: Kant’s Lectures on Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View.
